| MISSION STATEMENT |
The primary mission of the Tampa Bay Institute for Psychoanalytic Studies is to train the next generation of psychoanalysts and psychoanalytic psychotherapists in the theory, practice, and research in modern psychoanalysis. Psychoanalysis is a theory of the mind, a method of investigation, and a treatment procedure that posits the interacting effects of endogenous emotional experiences, psychological development through the life cycle, and relations with the environment in the production of mental conflict and distress. Ultimate questions of the validity of different approaches to these questions await answers from research inside and outside of psychoanalysis. Therefore, we feel that our educational mission is best served by a spirit of collegiality, openness, and humility in the face of complexity. |
